Duncan Black, aka Atrios has made a blogging career out of not much more than linking and saying “wanker.” This is a perfect example of first-mover advantage in action. I have slightly more pride (or slightly less balls) so I will link to this Matthew Yglesias post about how sitting on the couch is killing us all, complete with several sentences of content (which you’ve just read) and a short excerpt. This is why I am a superior blogger.
The latest findings, published this week in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, indicate that the amount of leisure time spent sitting in front of a screen can have such an overwhelming, seemingly irreparable impact on one’s health that physical activity doesn’t produce much benefit.
and…
It didn’t matter whether the men were physically active for several hours a week — exercise didn’t mitigate the risk associated with the high amount of sedentary screen time.
Crap.

In other news, have you begun to dive into Dickens? I’m about 240 pp in — good stuff, even though I feel like the plot has barely gotten underway. I don’t think either of us is going to attain the pace of Edmund Ruffin, the Virginia secessionist whose diary I’ve been reading, and who apparently read the book in a four-day period in 1857 (read entries July 12 to 15):

On the other hand, we’re not white supremacist fuckheads whose entire worldview was destroyed by the Civil War, such that we had to blow our faces off with shotguns while draped in a Confederate flag. So, all in all, I wouldn’t trade places with him, even if he can read fast.
I’m only a few pages into LD. I should have more time today to make some progress. Also, who is this Ruffin guy? He seems quite well-read for a racist shit clown. “Crazy world views, how do they work?”
Cool. I loved the opening, then it bogged down for a bit, and then it built up again. And there are still 600+ pp to go.
Who is this Ruffin guy? Did you just ask me a totally unironic question about my historical research? IT’S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! No, but seriously, I guess you can see why the mind of the pro-slavery douchebag is so fascinating. I honestly can’t imagine spending day and night (OK, let’s be honest–just parts of day, on some days) reading about the good guys. The bad guys is where shit is at.
